Arran Bannatyne drives to the baskets during a recent U-14 game against Penrith |
U14M1 centre Bannatyne proved a handful for opposition coaches as he provided Sydney West with a great low post presence. His rebounding and leadership was critical to his team’s success. Jay Green showed his versatility leading Sydney West in the unfamiliar point guard spot. Green’s defence was a highlight of the tournament as he terrorized his opposing ball handlers.
His decision making in the open court and combination with Bannatyne helped his team to 3rdplace for the week. Sydney West’s fellow Hornets Jayden Prakash and Will Anson chimed in with very handy contributions and valuable experience to take back to their U12-1’s team.
Bannatyne and Green’s Hornets team mate Mitchell Evans was also competing at the tournament with Mitchell leading his Mackillop team to 4th place. Evans showed why he is considered as one of the most potent guards in the Sydney Championship spearheading his team in their semi final heartbreaking 1 point loss. Mackillop coach had designed a play to give Mitchell the opportunity to take the game winning shot however it didn’t eventuate when the pass went astray giving Polding a shot at the State title.
A fantastic week of basketball was topped off with 2 Hornets selected in the state team. Congratulations to all involved and good luck to Arran and Jay at Nationals.
